As a little girl, I often dreamed of a fantasy land where I could escape and be truly free. In this magical place, I had friends who weren’t human, and every day was an adventure. Looking back, I realize that the world I imagined was remarkably similar to The Gribble’s Gift.
For many kids with challenging childhoods, fantasy lands offer a safe haven. I created these worlds to avoid the harshness of reality—whether it was to escape the yelling or the indifference to my excitement. These perfect worlds in my head provided a solace that reality couldn’t.
Reflecting on it now, I realize my childhood wasn’t all that bad. But living in my head, weaving tales of magic, romance, and friendship, was my way of coping with the parts of life that didn’t feel good to my heart.
Some people called me a daydreamer; others thought I was weird. But they didn’t understand that I was simply tuning out their indifference. Kids who create alternate realities to escape often face two possible futures. Some remain trapped in their fantasies, struggling to succeed in the real world. Others, like me, use their imagination as a powerful coping mechanism, enabling them to navigate hard times and lead fulfilling lives.
So, what about you? Which path has your imagination led you down?

The Gribble’s Gift: Tanglemire Forest No Ordinary World by N.J. Tierney
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
To read this book is to fall in love with this world. The characters pull you in and make you want to escape inside the forest! I have wanted to read this book since I found the author, and I can say I am a fan. I am already looking forward to the next book. I have read it on my Kindle, bought it for my daughter, and ordered a signed copy for my great-niece! I recommend reading the book and following Social media to understand the care she takes with these worlds and creating them! Fantastic mind and imagination
