The Inspiration

CJ on The Porch

The Inspiration

This is me in Kuwait, where I found solace on a porch that became a daily refuge to connect with my husband and kids.

Every time I visited, a sense of comfort enveloped me as everyone gathered there to find what they needed most in their lives.

At The Porch, people sought advice, peace, and sometimes laughter. Sometimes tears were shed, and hearts were heavy, but the shared sense of community always drew us together.

When the base was closing down, and I was busy inventorying engineering items, I noticed something hanging on the wall near my usual spot. It was a cross, a pendant – St. Michael’s pendant, and a wooden cross with a leather necklace. I kept them, treasuring their significance.

Back in 2012, little did I know that I would eventually become an author. My retirement from the Air Force in 2017 and the establishment of The Authors Porch in 2020 were surprises on my journey. However, The Porch mentality has always been a part of me, tracing back to my grandma’s Porch, which was always a warm and inviting gathering place.

The Porch, for me, is like a guiding light, a beacon that calls me home regardless of where I am in the world. Inspired by this sentiment, I wanted to create a special place for authors – a home they could always return to.

In The Authors Porch community, we don’t just focus on self-promotion because an author’s career is about connection and the journey of constant learning and growth. The journey is precious, and it’s something we can never reclaim once it’s gone.

Our mission is to connect the words authors write so that their books are cherished, shared, and admired. We hope The Authors Porch will welcome authors from around the world, where they can gather, reminisce about their unique journeys, and share insights to support one another.

It’s a place of reciprocity, where we give and take a little, but most importantly, we become more with each passing day. For, in the end, it’s not just about our careers; it’s about the connections we make and the impact we leave on each other’s lives.
